The 90 Minute Shirt

After finding a tutorial for the 90 minute shirt on Friday night I was inspired to make Oliver one over the weekend. The first one I made out of an old t shirt, but it ended up being a bit too small. I was in too much of a hurry when I enlarged the pattern, so the second shirt was a flop. I guess the third time was the charm because below are photos of the third shirt I made. There was enough fabric left over to make him a hat too. Pardon the abundance of pictures, but I couldn't help myself. I think blue is definitely Oliver's color.

Not sure if Joel would condone the lens cap playing, but he was getting squirmy and I had more photos to take.

I guess it is yummy.
We are still working on our sitting skill. The Boppy is there to help soften the tumbles.

If your husband wouldn't condone the lens chewing, you are not supposed to put of photo proof of what you did! You guys are so bad at sneaking around. Oliver looks darling...actually, no matter what he is wearing, but the shirt looks great. I still have that dress lying on my kitchen floor tempting me to cut it up and sew something.

Haha! Yes, so true. I should know better then that. I really think you should make something out of the dress. It would be so cute!

Love this - thanks for sharing the link to the pattern! I appreciate your offer to copy that other pattern, too. I think it would make lovely baby gifts. So would a personalized shirt... hmmmm...and so many babies coming this summer! :)

Great job on the shirt, Oliver is so sweet (and blue is definitely his color). Just had to comment on the lens cap...NICE! lol! I'm a bit biased since my camera's a Nikon. Regardless, great pictures!

Hey Martha!

Here is the recipe you asked for...we really liked this one and I hope y'all enjoy it! Are you still in CA? I'd love to catch up with you...my email is theophania AT gmail DOT com.

Broccoli Beef
INGREDIENTS

3/4 pound flank or sirloin, sliced thinly across the grain
3/4 pound broccoli florets
2 tablespoons high-heat cooking oil
2 cloves garlic, very finely minced or smushed through garlic smusher
1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 1 tablespoon water

For the beef marinade
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon Chinese rice wine (or dry sherry)
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

For the sauce
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
1 teaspoon Chinese rice wine (or dry sherry)
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/4 cup chicken broth

METHOD
1 Marinate the beef: Stir together the beef marinade ingredients in a medium bowl. Add the beef slices and stir until coated. Let stand for 10 minutes

2 Prepare the sauce: Stir together the sauce ingredients in a small bowl.

3 Blanch the broccoli: Cook the broccoli in a small pot of boiling, salted water until tender-crisp, about 2 minutes. Drain thoroughly.

4 Heat a large frying pan or wok over high heat until a bead of water sizzles and instantly evaporates upon contact. Add the cooking oil and swirl to coat. Add the beef and immediately spread the beef out all over the surface of the wok or pan in a single layer (preferably not touching). Let the beef fry undisturbed for 1 minute. Flip the beef slices over, add the garlic to the pan and fry for an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute until no longer pink, Pour in the sauce, add the blanched broccoli and bring to a boil. Pour in the dissolved cornstarch and cook, stirring, until the sauce boils and thickens, 30 seconds.
