Photos of the Week

I have no time to type much today, but I thought it was time to show you some more pictures of Oliver. We are all doing really well. Oliver had his 2 week check-up this week. He is gaining weight splendidly, and seems to be a very healthy baby. Our biggest news is that last night we got almost 8 hours of sleep!!!

Oliver Gets His First Sponge Bath

The other evening Oliver got his very first sponge bath. I'm not sure if we did everything correctly, but he smelled so yummy by the end that we must have done something right. :) He slept through most of it, and hardly even fussed until the very end.

This little foot has a very familiar feel to it. Although I much prefer feeling it on the outside of my body, instead of trying to push it out of my ribcage. :)

The Littlest Birds Sing the Prettiest Songs

Announcing the birth of Oliver Tristan! He was born at 5:42 a.m. on June 23rd (a great day for a birthday) and weighed in at 8 lbs. 11.2 ounces. After being in labor for over 26 hours, he was finally delivered via c-section. Since his head was pretty pointy he would not descend correctly because he kept turning his head and getting stuck. I pushed in ever position imaginable (to try to get him to come out straight) for over 3 hours with no luck. During the c-section I was having a bit of pain, so they turned up the epidural thus knocking me out, so my memory of the actual birth is very vague. After 5 days in the hospital we were very happy to be home. Joel went back to work on Monday and Oliver and I have been having a great time together. He is awake for several hours each day, and sleeps really well at night. And I have yet to hear him fuss for if there isn't a reason for it. My recovery is coming along better then I expected. Usually I feel like I am able to do lots, but I know if I push it too much it will take longer to heal. I am hoping that my lack of posting is now over. There are so many pictures that I want to show you. :) Check back often!

Knitting Projects for Oliver

First off, here is today's belly shot. Joel was too busy to take my picture, so I tried to do it myself. The lighting isn't too good, but you get the idea. We have just under 3 weeks to go! Yesterday we had a doctor appointment and an ultrasound and everything is looking good.

The rest of this post is about all the things I've been knitting for Oliver lately. I decided to make myself a list last week, so I would get a little motivation to cross things off the list. I actually finished quite a few projects because of this, but they were mainly the little projects.

Here is the beginning of my Log Cabin Blanket for baby. The pattern is from Mason-Dixon Knitting, but there really isn't much of a pattern. Just cast on, knit for awhile, cast off, turn, pick up stitches, knit for awhile....and so on and so forth. I ordered yarn from Knit Picks for this project, and I have a feeling there will be a lot left over so I'm having fun thinking up things to make with the extra yarn. The back of this blanket won't be so pretty, but there isn't much I can do about that and I've decided to find the ridges from picking up stitches charming. :)

Next is a hat and socks that I finished up this week. I was almost done making them when I realized that they matched the "Little Acorn" clothes I got on clearance from Janie and Jack. Hopefully the socks aren't too big because they have quite a bit of stretch in them. We shall see.
Next are some balls I knitted. I made them quite awhile ago, (hence they aren't on the recent knitting list) but just realized that I never posted a picture. Alice tells me the orange and white one looks like Nemo, but I prefer to think it looks like a creamsicle.

Last, but certainly not least, is the Blue Cable Blanket. I can hardly imagine how many hours I have put into this one, and can't quite remember what possessed me to cast on a cable blanket with fingering yarn on size 3 needles. I think each cable set is about an hour of knitting. (AND I KNIT FAST!!!) There are still nearly 2 skeins of yarn left, but it is starting to seem big enough. Right now I am more excited about the log cabin blanket, but I need to keep making myself knit on this one. (Oh, and the bottom edge will lay nice and flat after a good blocking.)
Close up of the cables.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter from our home to yours! We had a yellow and white/cream/linen theme for Easter this year, and I stayed up way too late on Saturday night finishing the place mats. In the end I think it was so worth it.

Joel and his chocolate bunny.

Here I am feeling very tired, but still happy that I stayed up late to finish those place mats. lol
Paper butterflies hanging from the light fixture.
Egg, provolone, and prosciutto panini.
It was so gorgeous out that we decided to end the day at the beach. It was a very relaxing way to end the day/weekend.

Embroidered Fabric Boxes

I had been thinking for a long time that I needed to start making fabric boxes to house some little annoyances that bothered me. :) I found a tutorial last week (Um...I can try to find it again if anyone wants it), and changed the measurements to suite my needs. First up is a box for our remote controls. I decided to embroider the outside first to make it a little cuter.

And this little one is to throw stuff in on top of the microwave. There is always little pile of "What is this from?" up there, and at least now it looks cute. :)

Spring Coasters

I've been trying to make little changes in my living room to make it feel more like Spring. The last set of coasters that I made were orange and I liked them a lot, but since I'm trying to remove some of the orange (and they had coffee stains on them) it seemed like a new set were in order. I love this tree fabric so much and I like to use very small pieces of it at a time so it will last. :) I love how they turned out, and the rule is that you have to promise not to spill on them if you want to use one. :) Nevertheless, I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon enough, and I'll have to come up with another coaster idea in the Fall.

Gnomes

Ever since we found a second hand copy of this book, (We already had one copy, but I couldn't not buy another for only $1.00 even if it was a little beat up.) little gnomes have been popping up in the strangest places. I'm thankful though...maybe they will help keep my plants alive. I'm glad they aren't Siberian Gnomes, but the less said about Siberian Gnomes the better. Read the book if you want to learn why.
