While cleaning in the basement a week or so ago, Mom and I came across the pattern and all that was needed to make some pixie dolls. Mom said she had tried making them before and they weren't turning out very cute so she stopped. As she stood there pondering the fate of the pattern and supplies (Our motto for basement cleaning is "Purge, purge, purge."), I started saying things such as, "How could a pixie not be cute? We should really keep these. I will make them, I promise." In the end she said that I could go ahead and try to see if the pattern worked out for me. She stood by her original statement until they were just being completed. I turned a nearly completed pixie around for her to see and she said, "Oh! They are cute! Really cute!" It has taken me awhile to get the jingle bells for their collars, so that is what held up me posting about them. They measure 6 1/2 inches long and were entirely hand sewn by yours truly. The green pixie is actually a puppet or dancing pixie as the pattern said. It has a slit in the back where you can insert your fingers into its legs to make it walk and dance. That is why it has the rouching across its tummy and the blue one doesn't. The blue doll is filled with a little bit of wool stuffing and then beads. I find the face of the green pixie more charming, but like that the blue pixie isn't a puppet. These two babies will be enjoyed a little longer before being "Hopechested" by me. Hopefully I will one day have a child that finds them delightful.
And now one quick story from school today. I volunteer with the 1st and 2nd grade class at out church school one afternoon a week. There is one little boy there that I really enjoy seeing. Today I was helping him get something from his cubby hole and he started singing, “I’m a cutie, I’m a cutie, I’m a cutie” and dancing around a little bit. I refrained from saying, “Yes, you are”, and instead asked him where he learned that song. I was told that he taught it to himself just before he started singing a new song. This time it was “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.”
Time for bed. 6:30 a.m. aways comes too soon.
